A Night of Mental Disorder

Neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux lectures on “Fear”

Terror. Dread. Anxiety. Panic. Fear may be the most ancient and essential of all emotions—and one of the hardest to control. Dr. Joseph LeDoux embarks on a journey into the human mind to unravel the biological basis of fear, emotion, and phobias.

Professor of neural science and psychology at New York University and author of Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are and The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life, LeDoux explores the intricacies of the brain’s pathways and the amygdala. He asks: How do traumas shape personality? Can neural architecture determine our behavior? When does instinct override intellect?

Check out this nerve-tingling lecture, and watch LeDoux rock out with his band …

The Amygdaloids

What happens when four hardcore scientists make music? They rock—and name their band after a small, almond-shaped structure in the brain!!! The Amygdaloids are Joseph LeDoux (neuroscientist) on guitar, Tyler Volk (environmental scientist) on guitar, Nina Galbraith Curley (psychologist) on bass, and Daniela Schiller (neuroscientist) on drums.
